Local Tim Hortons customers can help send children to camp by supporting an annual fundraiser being held at restaurants across the country on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, all proceeds from hot beverage and iced coffee sales across Canada are donated to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps to help underserved youth.
“We have by far the most generous community that I know of,” said Chris Caruana, who owns a number of Tim Hortons locations in Windsor.
“Whether it’s Camp Day or Smile Cookies or any of the other events, the numbers speak for themselves. Even through COVID, where we had the limited potential to do fundraising at restaurants, the numbers continued to grow.”
Last year, the initiative raised more than $12 million, and more than $236 million has been raised since 1991.
Individuals can support Camp Day by purchasing a Camp Day bracelet or donation badge, rounding up their orders to the nearest 10 cents or dollar, or ordering a Camp Day donut at participating restaurants.
Since 1974, Tim Hortons Foundation Camps has supported more than 315,000 youth at its seven Tims Camps at no cost to the youths or their families. It also provides school-based and community-based programming.
“It’s great,” Caruana said. “Especially as an owner, getting to meet some of the graduates from the camps over the years at some of our regional conventions — they’re very thankful for the opportunities that they’ve had.”
