Singapore’s key food delivery companies, Grab, Foodpanda and Deliveroo, have come together to launch an association that will draw up guidelines to support traders and delivery staff.

The organisation, known as the Digital Platforms Industry Association (DPIA), will also help identify areas for improvement and facilitate collaboration with government and industry stakeholders.

According to local publication Channel NewsAsia (CNA), DPIA also plans to launch a code of practice for the industry, which will include industry best practices as well as principles related to the health and safety of delivery staff.

All three members are expected to adopt the code of practice.

In a statement, the three companies said: “Globally, the food delivery industry has grown rapidly, rising to a peak in public awareness during the pandemic.

“It is an essential service today and an exciting new economic sector. For platform companies, the well-being of our supply partners and merchants across the market is paramount.

“That is why DPIA was established – to consolidate the industry’s deep platform expertise and shape the development and growth of the industry within Singapore’s national economy.”

The three companies are said to have initiated consultations with various government stakeholders, the National Delivery Champions Association and other industry stakeholders since last year.

In addition, DPIA members are working with the Workplace Health and Safety Council to establish road safety guidelines for delivery partners.

Earlier in the year, Grab partnered with technology services company NCS to trial a robot food delivery service in Singapore.
