You may not know that your commercial refrigerator’s compressor coils can get dirty. The good news is that cleaning your refrigerator coils can increase your efficiency and save you money. You should clean the coils at least twice a year or more if the refrigerator uses forced ventilation.
You can purchase a special brush designed for cleaning coils at a hardware or DIY store. It has a narrow nozzle that allows you to clean the most difficult places inside the coils. To avoid damaging the coil fins, move the brush slowly and keep the nozzle close to the coils.
Once you have removed the outer panel, clean the coils. Then use a soft brush to clean off any dust and pet hair that has accumulated. A flashlight is helpful to see the coils. Once you have completed the cleaning process, replace the panel and turn the unit back on.
Before you start cleaning the coils, make sure you are wearing the proper protective gear. If you don’t have the necessary tools, you can buy a plastic brush for $5 and scrub the coils with it until they are completely clean. You can also use vinegar as a non-toxic stainless steel cleaner.
The condenser coils are located at the bottom of the refrigerator, behind the bottom grill. These coils are made of metal tubes rolled into a grid shape. You will need to remove the refrigerator from the wall before cleaning.
