While Phrom Phong already boasts an ever-growing number of restaurants serving a slice of Italy, a new option has opened for those hungering for delicious pasta with notes of Asia.

Next door to secondhand bookstore Dasa Book Cafe, Lobster Main Kitchen recently opened to serve tasty pastas, pizzas, and pinewood-smoked steak cuts – what Pariyapat “Kook” Liangsrisuk learned best in her years working at the Shangri-La Hotel and renowned, Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon.

Lobster Main Kitchen was an upgrade from Kook’s passion pandemic project, Lobster Virtual Kitchen, where she made home-cooked dishes for people stuck at home. With fusion dishes like tom yum pasta with grilled river prawns and miso cream paste with soft tofu and salmon roe, the delivery platform grew so popular within months that it attracted its own regulars.

“I adapted what I learned from those kitchens and matched it with flavors Thai people are more familiar with,” Kook said. She refutes that her restaurant is limited to only “Italian” dishes.

Start with an epitome of comfort food like the thick, creamy and satisfying Mushroom Soup (THB140) loaded with earthy flavors. Another crowd-pleasing appetizer great for any dinner party is the Salmon Tartare (THB390). We’re talking diced salmon mixed with parmesan cheese, pickled shallots, citrus juice, and fresh herbs.

It would be a mistake not to order any pasta while dining there. Kook whips up fresh pastas with rich texture and flavors thanks to a simple trick: no water added. Instead, she tosses it with organic chicken and duck eggs.

Stick with a classic like the Tagliatelle Amatriciana (tomato sauce, caramelized onions, smoked bacon, and pecorino cheese for THB320) or kick it up a notch with the Tagliatelle Umami Brunch (THB400), a Japanese-inspired recipe of flat, ribbon-shaped noodles soaked in miso cream sauce and topped with soft tofu, salmon roe, and katsuobushi (paper-thin shavings of skipjack tuna).

Peruse the handwritten menu board on the walls or miss out on occasional specials such as mouthwatering Saffron Risotto & Beef Tongue (THB690) or Black Arrabiata with Squid Pizza (THB340).  They will rotate weekly or monthly depending on the ingredients in Kook’s kitchen.

A fireplace in the back is where she can be found in action grilling and smoking with pinewood. One of the finest steaks, such as an Australian Wagyu T-Bone, is a big treat as well as the Maine Lobster. They are priced by weight.

The resto is herbivore-friendly as well as its vegetarian menu fills a whole page.

Finish off the feast with a Tiramisu (THB200) that comes with scrumptious layers of spiced rum, ladyfinger, cream, and mascarpone – all with espresso powder drizzled on the top.
