A newlyweds’ dream reception soon turned into a nightmare – after the second floor of their wedding venue collapsed.

Brian and Cassidy Gagliardotto had invited over 200 family and friends to help celebrate their marriage in Barnegat Light, New Jersey, on Saturday evening.

The couple had hired out the Daymark Bar & Restaurant for a DJ to entertain guests but he was just three songs in when disaster struck.

As guests were dancing and celebrating the couple’s wedding, the second floor of the venue collapsed as everyone rushed for the nearest exits.

Groom Brian Gagliardotto told WABC-TV : “Our DJ just kicked it off and we were like three songs in.

“I felt [the floor], like, drop, and I instantly got off the dance floor.”

Emergency services were called to the scene as the guests quickly evacuated the building.

However, the DJ was the unsung hero of the night after he was praised by the Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Company – who attended the scene.

The fire service said in a statement on Facebook on Sunday: “The DJ did an excellent job of announcing to all patrons to safely exit the building after hearing the rumble noise.”

Fortunately, there were no injuries and guests managed to escape unscathed.

Determined not to let it spoil their big day, many of the guest were singing outside the building as they continued their night – once everyone was confirmed safe.

The newlyweds wanted to continue their special night and quickly made arrangements to move their party elsewhere.

Brian said: “We knew where my parents were staying and we moved to that location and the party just continued on.”

The venue announced they would remain shut until the whole building was safe to reopen.
